Mr Shankar Thiagarajah is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery. He is based in Doncaster and Sheffield and currently practices at Park Hill Hospital, Doncaster. Mr Thiagarajah received his medical degree from the University of Manchester in 2003. He later completed a Diploma in Sports & Exercise Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons. He became a Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the Royal College of Surgeons in 2016 and was awarded a PhD in 2017 from the University of Sheffield. He received his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2017 and was registered as a Specialist by the General Medical Council shortly after. He completed two post-CCT fellowships, one in hip & knee arthroplasty and joint reconstruction at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, Canada and one in young adult hip preservation surgery at University College London Hospital, UK. During the almost two decades of his medical degree, Mr Thiagarajah received numerous awards for his work, including the prestigious New Investigator Recognition Award which he was awarded at the Orthopaedic Research Society Meeting in 2014 in New Orleans, USA. He has special interests in all areas of hip and knee surgery including: hip & knee pain, hip & knee arthroscopy and sports injuries to the hip/groin. In his current positions in both public and private healthcare, Mr Thiagarajah provides a personalised service for all his patients using the latest evidence-based techniques with complementary technology. His expertise in this techniques has allowed him to develop a same-day discharge programme for particular patients undergoing hip and knee replacements. He is known for providing high quality, patient centred-care. He performs a wide range of replacement and revision procedures, including minimally-invasive surgeries which promotes fast post-operative recovery. He also performs hip preservation procedures including arthroscopy and osteotomy.
