Philip Rosell studied medicine at Guys Hospital in London and gained an additional degree (BSc) in the history of medicine and ancient history. After qualifying, he performed his initial medical posts in Portsmouth and at the Cambridge Military Hospital before embarking on my formal military service with the Parachute Regiment. He completed his surgical training in Wessex, with some time spent on plastic surgery, followed by a specialist fellowship in Oxford where he was trained under Professor Carr in the shoulder and elbow unit. He also performed some of his surgical training in Grenoble, France, learning advanced techniques in arthroscopy and joint replacement of the shoulder and elbow. Philip completed 25 years of military service and served on 4 operational tours of Iraq and Afghanistan where on his most recent tour he was able to act as a mentor and pass on some of the military trauma experience to more junior military surgeons. He has transferred his allegiance to the NHS from the MOD and is still employed as a consultant at Frimley Park Hospital. Philip is experienced in carrying out joint replacements of shoulders and elbows including the newer reverse polarity shoulder replacements as well as performing revision procedures for those implants where required. He also performs both open and arthroscopic procedures for shoulder and elbow conditions such as instability, rotator cuff disease impingement and arthritis and is a trainer in European advanced shoulder arthroscopy courses.
