Mr Neel Umapathy is a Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon based in the Isle of Man at Nobles Hospital seeing both adults and children. He has specialist expertise in otology (ear conditions), rhinology (nose conditions), thyroid surgery, salivary gland surgery, voice disorders and paediatrics (children). He completed his primary medical training in India and obtained MBBS at the Stanley Medical College, Chennai, University of Madras. He began his post graduate training in the UK in 1996 and completed his higher specialist training in otolaryngology in the West Midlands. He was awarded FRCS (ORL-HNS) by the Inter Collegiate Examination Board of the combined Royal College of Surgeons in 2006. He has been on the GMCs (General Medical Councils) specialist register since 2006. Prior to joining Nobles Hospital in 2018, Mr Umapathy was based in Bolton for 12 years at the Royal Bolton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and had practising rights at the BMI Beaumont Hospital to see private patients. He was a named trainer for higher specialist trainees for 10 years and was an associate foundation programme director for a year. He completed two visiting fellowships in rhinology and facial plastics in Amsterdam and in Portland, Oregon. Mr Umapathy sees both adults and children with a variety of ear, nose and throat conditions, including sore ears, sore throat, blocked nose, voice problems, snoring, sleep apnoea, swollen tonsil & adenoids, sinusitis, nasal polyps, fluid build-up in the ears, neck lumps including salivary glands and thyroid. He has extensive experience in several procedures (both adults and children) including septoplasty, grommet insertion, adenoidectomy, tonsillectomy, endoscopic sinus surgery, nasal polypectomy, vocal fold surgery (for voice), ear draining, tongue tie release and several diagnostic endoscopic procedures such laryngoscopy. He has additional qualifications in medical law and high impact leadership; he has an interest in teaching and training. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons and is an active member of national selection for the higher specialist trainees in otolaryngology. He has been providing a safe, effective and a high-quality service at Nobles hospital and is keen to see that the islands health care is provided as much as possible on the island with close links with the tertiary centres in the UK. He maintains close working relationship with the general practitioners providing support as and when needed. He is kind & considerate, takes care to put patients at ease, treating them with respect and professionalism, offering relevant information in easy to understand language and discussing management options with openness and honesty. He helps patients and carers to make an informed choice and supports them to take control of their conditions. He always gives his best for his patients.
