Mr Matthew Solan is a consultant orthopaedic foot and ankle surgeon who specialises in all aspects of Foot and Ankle surgery. He sees both adults and children with a wide variety of foot, ankle, and sports injuries. His aim is to restore function as quickly as possible, with surgery only as a last resort. Mr Solan has particular expertise in the painful big toe and the treatment of heel pain. He introduced the UKs first one-stop clinic for heel and ankle problems and has been a pioneer of minimally invasive muscle release surgery for chronic heel pain. He also has special interests in arthroscopic key-hole surgery, forefoot surgery, rheumatoid arthritis and heel pain/achilles conditions. Mr Solan graduated from St Thomas Hospital Medical School in 1992. He undertook specialist orthopaedic training in the South Thames (West) Region before being awarded a British Orthopaedic Travelling Fellowship in Dublin. Mr Solan has also worked overseas in South Africa and undertaken research at Universities Baltimore, USA. In 2003, he was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Frimley Park Hospital, and to the Royal Surrey County Hospital in 2006. He has published extensively on foot and ankle surgery and teaches both nationally and internationally.
