Mr Saksena has been a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon since 2009. He undertook his medical training in Scotland and graduated with honours in 1995. He underwent his initial surgical training in the UK and Australia before embarking on his specialist orthopaedic training on the prestigious Royal London Hospital Rotation. He has worked and lived in the North London area since 2002.Joyti Saksenas clinical practice lies in hip and knee joint replacement surgery, complex primary hip replacement and revision hip and knee replacement.He performs arthroscopic knee surgery and soft tissue knee reconstruction including anterior cruciate ligament and medial patella-femoral ligament reconstruction. He has a keen interest in joint preservation surgery of the hip and knee and undertakes procedures to try and prevent the need for joint replacement particularly in the younger patient including hip arthroscopy.During his training he undertook 3 specialist fellowships:Hip Reconstruction under the guidance of Miss Sarah Muirhead-Allwood at the Princess Grace and King Edward VII hospitals, London.Hip and Knee arthroplasty fellowship at The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Under the guidance of Mr K Tucker (past president British Hip Society)Specialist Knee fellowship at The Royal Free and Wellington Knee Unit under the guidance of Mr GSE Dowd and Mr HE Ware.His other roles include Director of Medical Education at the Royal Free London NHS Trust, where he is responsible for the training needs of over 600 trainee doctors over 3 hospitals.His research interest lies in improving surgical and quality of life outcomes. His aim is to provide enhanced recovery by adopting approaches that improve the whole patient journey from pre-operative assessment to post-operative rehabilitation. He has published and presented his research work in Europe and the USA.Joyti Saksena keeps up to date by attending national and international scientific meetings. He undertook a traveling surgeon visit to the USA to visit surgeons who specialise in conservative hip and custom knee replacement techniques. He has adopted 3D computer-aided planning in to his practise and patient specific implants.He is keen on innovation in orthopaedics and has been involved in the design and testing of a number of orthopaedic implants.He lives in North London with his wife and two children.
