Mr Issaq Ahmed is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in treating lower limb disorders dealing principally with hip and knee surgery.Mr Ahmed graduated from the University of Dundee Medical School in 2004 and undertook his basic surgical training in Tayside before completing his Orthopaedic registrar training in Edinburgh. In 2013, Mr Ahmed was awarded British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) transitional fellowship in complex and revision (redo) joint replacement surgery which he completed in the North East of England. Following this he completed a sub specialist knee fellowship at the North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre (NSOSMC). Here he trained under world leading knee surgeons and developed a specialist interest in ligament surgery of the knee, computer and robotic assisted knee replacement surgery.Mr Ahmed is currently a full time consultant at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Royal Hospital of Young children and person (RHYCP). He deals with a wide range of hip and knee pathologies, such as osteoarthritis, avascular necrosis (loss of blood supply), rheumatoid arthritis and soft tissue knee injuries and complaints. He also provides emergency care for children with traumatic injuries out of hours.Mr Ahmed continues to develop the joint replacement service in Edinburgh. He is the Chair of the Enhanced Recovery after joint replacement surgery (ERAS) which focuses on improving the journey of patients undergoing surgery.
