Mr Gary Mundy is an experienced senior consultant surgeon with a specialist interest in hip and knee surgery. His NHS practice is based at Northampton General Hospital, where he is also the clinical director for trauma and orthopaedics. He sees both NHS and private patients at the Circle Three Shires Hospital in Northampton and has admitting rights to the Cherwell hospital in Banbury. Graduating from the University of Manchester in 1996 he completed his basic surgical training in the East Midlands, passing the post-graduate membership examination of three different Royal Surgical Colleges, namely London, Glasgow and Edinburgh in 2000. He then undertook his higher surgical specialist orthopaedic training on the Mid Trent training programme working in Nottingham, Derby and Mansfield, successfully passing the fellowship examination in Orthopaedics in 2008. The same year he also was awarded a diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine from the University of Bath. In 2009 he undertook a senior fellowship in joint replacement surgery at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Stanmore in London. This allowed him to develop expertise in all aspects of joint replacement surgery including complex primary reconstruction, rheumatoid surgery, hip resurfacing, and revision hip and knee joint replacement surgery. He was appointed as a consultant at Northampton General in 2010 and now has a wealth of experience in joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee. He has undertaken over 2500 primary joint replacements and over 400 revision (redo) joint replacements. Mr Mundy has an interest in sporting injuries and lower limb trauma. He is a member of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine and a faculty member of AO orthopaedics. Alongside his expertise in joint replacement surgery, sports injuries and trauma, Mr. Mundy also has a specialist interest in musculoskeletal tumours and metastatic disease. He established a two-week wait sarcoma referral clinic at Northampton General hospital in 2011, now part of the East Midlands Sarcoma network, and is the sarcoma/metastatic tumour lead at Northampton. Mr. Mundy is a Fellow of the British Orthopaedic Association and a member of various societies such as the British Hip Society, British Association for Surgery of the Knee, British Patellofemoral Society, British Orthopaedic Oncology Society, American Hip and Knee Society, and American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons. In addition to his clinical practice, Mr. Mundy has an interest in medical law and was awarded a Masters degree in Medical Law and Ethics from De Montfort University in 2020. He is also a member of the Medico-Legal Society.
