Mr Duncan Avis became a consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery at the North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke, part of the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2017. He also works privately at the BMI Hampshire Clinic. Mr Avis graduated with Honours from Bristol University Medical School in 2004. He went on to complete his general surgical training, including academic teaching and research roles in Bristol, the South West and South Wales. To undertake his specialist orthopaedic training, he moved to the Wessex region and simultaneously completed an MSc in Trauma Surgery. After being awarded the FRSC Trauma & Orthopaedics examination, he spent a year on the prestigious British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) Fellowship at the Queen Elizabeth and Royal Orthopaedic Hospitals in Birmingham. This enabled him to work and study all aspects of hand surgery in an internationally renowned centre. He is one of only a select few of Hand Surgeons to hold a Diploma in Hand Surgery. As a result, he is knowledgeable of the most current evidence and surgical techniques on which he bases his clinical decision making. Mr Avis is a specialist in all aspects of hand and upper limb surgery, with a particular interest in wrist surgery and trauma.
