Description

Professor David Deehan was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon in 2000. He holds a chair in Orthopaedics at Newcastle and is a visiting Professor at Imperial College, London. He completed his training in Newcastle, with time spent in Australia and Germany.He holds degrees from Edinburgh (MBChB) Strathclyde (MSc) and Aberdeen (MD DSc) and is the chair of Orthopaedic Surgery at Newcastle University.He is a co-founder and co-director of the NSTC (since 2007).Additionally he has driven the creation of the Newcastle Retrieval Centre (2015).Professor Deehan has co authored over 200 peer reviewed articles, several book chapters and given many national and international talks reflecting his interest in molecular biology, mechanics and patient outcomes. He has secured both large infrastructure and basic science research grants.Clinical interests include primary and revision arthroplasty, soft tissue reconstruction and robotic surgery of the knee, biomechanics of the knee and immunotribiological aspects of host implant interaction. His clinical philosophy is to marry basic science with new technology with a view to improving patient outcomes from surgical intervention.
