Biography
As a psychologist, I see it as my role to walk alongside those who entrust me to do so, providing support and encouragement, perspective, and guidance and navigation, when needed. Life’s path takes many twists, turns, and detours and often leads us in wildly different directions than we plan. But I believe that meaning and purpose can be found in the loss, pain, and trauma we encounter along the way. I am honored when the people I work with allow me to help them discover this, as well as the humor and joy that is present in so many places.
I have spent a total of more than 15 years working in college and university counseling, helping young adults, as well as non-traditional, graduate, and professional school students, establish their identities, find their passions in life, navigate difficult experiences, and develop healthy relationships. I still love working with this population in addition to adults of all ages.
In my most recent role at the Wake Forest University Counseling Center, I developed the psychology internship program and led the effort to obtain APA-accreditation in the shortest possible timeframe. I have provided clinical supervision and training to master’s and doctoral trainees and early-career colleagues in the mental health field for the past 9 years. I have also held leadership roles in my employment, as well as in state organizations, including as the founding president of the Indiana College Counseling Association. I greatly enjoy supervising and mentoring students into the profession and colleagues along their career paths and into leadership roles.
