Mr Willem Schenk is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in knee and trauma surgery.Mr Schenk has worked at the BMI St Edmunds Hospital since 2001 and has been a consultant since 1996. He is committed to giving patients a well-balanced opinion on orthopaedic conditions and trauma disorders.Mr Schenk has a keen interest in sports injuries around the knee, as well as degenerative disorders. He is a specialist arthroscopic surgeon who performs cartilage, meniscus and cruciate ligament key-hole surgery. A large part of Mr Schenks practice is knee replacements. Where possible, he is keen to preserve as much of the knee joint as possible, performing the well proven and well researched Oxford uni-compartmental ( half knee) knee replacement both for the medial and lateral compartment. He probably implants the largest number of Oxford uni-compartmental knee replacements in East Anglia. Where a half knee replacement is not possible, he uses a Genesis II total knee replacement with excellent results. His results in the National Joint Registry are well above average.Mr Schenk is a very keen sailor and enjoys sailing with his family. He also skippers a yacht in the NHS regatta. He enjoys driving his Morgan but commutes when possible on his E-bike. He is married with three children, all studying at university.
