Mr Andrew Manktelow graduated from University of London in 1989 and undertook his specialist orthopaedic training at the famous Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. He completed his training as the Lecturer in the Academic Department of Orthopaedics at University College, London, working for Professor George Bentley. Additionally, he undertook a one-year clinical fellowship at Harvard University at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, focusing on primary. In 1999, he was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the University Hospital, Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham with a specialist interest in hip and knee surgery.His wide experience includes a large number of hip and knee replacements per year, using various fixation methods and different bearing surfaces in hip surgery depending on patients activity requirements. He has been trained in and uses minimally invasive techniques. In addition he has a hip resurfacing practice in Nottingham using the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing. Additionally, he has recently developed an interest in soft tissue and sports problems around the hip, including hip arthroscopy.Mr Manktelow lectures widely in the UK and abroad. He has published extensively in research on numerous topics surrounding primary, resurfacing and revision hip arthroplasty. Mr Manktelow performed the first case carried out worldwide of a new multi-bearing uncemented hip socket in 2009 and he continues to be involved in future developments surrounding hip and hip revision surgery. Additionally, he also runs a number of different courses surrounding primary and hip revision surgery every year in Nottingham. The courses in Nottingham are attended by surgeons from throughout the UK and abroad. Mr Manktelow has been a guest speaker at the Indian Hip and Knee Society in Calcutta where he gave instructional lectures surrounding primary and hip revision surgery.
