Biography
My philosophy as a cognitive behavior therapist is to provide evidence-based treatments in an environment of collaboration, empathy, and respect. It is my view that the objective of psychotherapy is to help clients achieve enduring and meaningful change and move beyond just symptom reduction and toward the pursuit of value-driven lives.
I earned a BS in Psychology from The University of Florida in 1989 and a PhD in Clinical/School Psychology from Hofstra University in 1993. My clinical training was concentrated in CBT with an emphasis on applied behavior analysis, cognitive therapy, and rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT). I have been licensed in Psychology in New York State since 1995 and in New Jersey since 1998. I have held several hospital-based positions in the fields of pain management, general rehabilitation, and cardiac rehabilitation and have maintained a private practice in CBT since 1995. I have received advanced training in CBT from the Institute for Behavior Therapy (IBT), New York City's first CBT-focused clinic, as well as advanced training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
I have been a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry in the Grossman NYU School of Medicine for over twenty years. In this role, I presently supervise psychiatry residents (PGY3) in CBT. I am on the Allied Health Staff at NYU Langone Health and at Lenox Hill Hospital - Northwell Health. At Lenox Hill - Northwell Health, I presently supervise psychology externs in CBT. I have been a consulting psychologist to the NYU Langone Weight Management Program since 1999 and am the author of "Through Thick and Thin: The Emotional Journey of Weight Loss Surgery."
In addition to my clinical work, I am the President of The Performance Consulting Group, LLC, which helps individuals and organizations enhance the performance of top executives and senior managers. My work has been published in mainstream and peer-reviewed publications.
