Tim qualified from the Birmingham School of Podiatry in 1985. He took up a post in Kettering Health Authority where he developed an interest in the management of children’s foot problems while working toward the primary theory exams in podiatric surgery. He subsequently won the Alan Proctor award for the highest pass in his year. After completing his surgical training under Mr David Tollafield and Mr Ian Turbutt and Northampton General and Luton General Hospital, Tim was awarded Fellowship of the Podiatry Association in 1991. In 1988 Tim commenced a PhD study of the treatment of children’s bunions at Nottingham University Medical School, Department of Orthopaedics. He was awarded the Nottingham University Gertrude Cropper Prize for excellence in research in 1989 After a short period working as a Lecturer at the Northampton School of Podiatry, Tim returned to the NHS as a Podiatric Surgeon in 1994 working for Doncaster, Chesterfield and St Batholomews before being appointed Consultant Podiatric Surgeon in Nottingham and nearby Ilkeston in 1997. His interest in research has continued throughout his career with now over 85 published articles on foot surgery and the treatment of various foot conditions. The surgical correction of bunions and hammer toes remains a particular research interest. He has performed over 17,500 foot operations. Elected the first Dean of the Faculty of Podiatric Surgery of the College of Podiatrists in 1998, Tim has always been involved in the educational and professional development of podiatric surgery. He has also served on the Specialty Advisory Board in Podiatric Surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. He was the external examiner to the Masters degree in the theory of Podiatric Surgery at Glasgow and Edinburgh University and is an Examiner for the Fellowship in Podiatric Surgery at Huddersfield University. Tim is currently a visiting Professor at Ulster University, School of Podiatry where he is a clinical tutor and Galway University where he provides the Podiatric Surgery module.
