I qualified from the Royal Free Hospital in 1990 with merits in pharmacology, obstetrics and gynaecology and surgery. Following general medical training I specialised in haematology. During this time I successfully completed a PhD while at the Royal Free Hospital on immunotherapy of acute myeloid leukaemia. I completed my specialist training in 2002, and obtained my first substantive post as a consultant in Brighton in 2003. I have developed a dedicated inpatient unit for the trust, and since 2007 have been the clinical lead. I was nominated and won the doctor of the year award for Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2013.
