Growing up in Africa; and doing voluntary work from a young age with beautiful, happy and amazing children who had a wide range of disabilities; inspired me to become an OT. My husband and father to our son, is a full time wheelchair user. As a witness to access and inadvertent discrimination issues, I am passionate about helping to create a more inclusive society and I have a personal understanding of the importance of appropriate language and communication; inclusion; participation; and quality of life. I qualified as an occupational therapist in 1994 and have worked in the field of paediatric OT since 1997; in the UK and New Zealand; both in the public and private sectors. I have worked purely in the private sector since 2015. WHAT I DO: I aim to ensure all clients receive a high quality and 'needs led' OT service following a comprehensive and purely independent, initial assessment; ensuring the social aspects (model) of disability/ impairment/ challenge are taken into account. I support OTs from all clinical backgrounds; but particularly OTs with an interest in working in paediatrics; to develop their skills and knowledge in order to help clients achieve their goals; increase their independence and participation; and improve their quality of life and enjoyment. If you are an OT looking for a new challenge and a change or you are someone seeking an OT for a client, please feel free to get in touch.
