A few words about my part-time PhD Research, Psychology Department, Roehampton University, UK: After almost 16 years as a clinical, educational and community occupational therapist working with children with developmental disorders and attachment issues, I have chosen to study an area which has not been sufficiently investigated, although it is proved of interest of various different professionals and scientists. The superior general aim of my PhD study at Roehampton University is to research the outcomes of Ayres Sensory Integration treatment for adopted children growing up with attachment disorders and possible trauma and how an occupational therapy centre can support such children’s emotional regulation. It will be additionally investigated what is the effectiveness of ASI treatment in other areas of development such as gross and fine motor skills, behaviour and academic progress, as reported by the key attachment figures, teachers and other health professionals. These areas are equally important for our research as their development can be greatly associated with improvements in self-esteem and confidence that adopted children with attachment difficulties or trauma struggle to maintain or improve and this has an impact within their adoptive family.
