My training as an Occupational Therapist began under the University of Salford BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy programme, with my clinical placements taking place across the Greater Manchester NHS trust. I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in November 2021 and registered under the HCPC in March 2022. Throughout my clinical training and time as a qualified Occupational Therapist, I have practiced in Early intervention psychosis, stroke, neurorehabilitation, acute medicine, older adult mental health and paediatrics. I have excellent therapeutic skills and am adaptable as an Occupational Therapist in engaging patients from a range of clinical environments. I regularly collaborate with patients to engage in meaningful client centred care based on what is purposeful to them. I have previously worked with vulnerable adults and with complex children with varying needs, meaning I am able to select specific therapeutic and communication skills based in individual patients to encourage their collaboration in their own care processes. I am able to adapt my therapeutic skills regardless of the environment to allow patients to understand the role of OT, to empower them to create and meet meaningful goals. Working above and beyond to get to know what matters to the patient has enabled me to develop as an Occupational Therapist, in engaging and empowering the most vulnerable patients throughout different healthcare contexts. I feel that the varying nature of my roles within hospitals and the community across various trusts has enabled me to continually develop my therapeutic and clinical skills. In all of my roles I have undertaken training relevant to my area of practice and the constantly evolving field of Occupational Therapy as noted in the training section of my application. My training has been undertaken to further my breadth of knowledge and continue to develop my practice. I have demonstrated this by producing a portfolio of my continual professional development throughout my studies and since qualifying, to ensure that the quality of my practice is maintained, and I am always challenging myself to continue to develop professionally.
