I have work in the care sector for over thirty years,. The last ten years as an Occupational therapist within the mental health sector. My first post was in a CMHT for older adults with mental health issues: providing adaptive equipment to enhance their independence, which enable people with dementia to remain safely, in thier homes for longer, including Telecare equipment, movement sensor and mats. I completed the Assist suicide prevention training, which gave me more confidence to discuss people's distress and supporting them to talk about their emotional pain that often led to thinking about suicide and collaborative safety plans. After twenty months, I move to The Rapid Response Team (RIT),as a band 6, within the learning difficulty sector.Whilst working with RIT, we won,Team of the year.I completed Module one,at Master level, Sensory integration with Ulster university.More recently I studied Sensory Intelligence with Anne-Maria Lombard. I have worked on an Intensive Home Treatment Team, over the last 7 years and a half years. Our Team provides an alternative to an acute mental health admission, in the community, which I am committed to: as we know outcomes are better if people can remain at home, including families, in their care. I have also trained in brief systemic family work. I have completed Dialectical Behaviour Training, with enables me support people, who are distressed, to learn safer strategies to manage their emotional pain. I completed further suicide prevention programme and now am a trainer for the Connecting with people programme.Founded by Dr Alex King-Cole. this is a compassionate approach, to support people to see risk management differently, when experiencing distress and trauma safely. The approach uses a body of evidence based tools: supporting clients to create an enhanced safety plan, and guides professionals, to make a proactive service response.
