Training & Background Mr Sleat qualified from Cambridge University in 2004 and subsequently trained in hospitals in Cambridge, Ipswich, London and Kent before moving to the Oxford Region. He completed specialist orthopaedic training in the Oxford Region in 2016 including two years of training in hip and knee replacement surgery. He then spent a year on a fellowship at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, where he developed his specialist interests in trauma, and sports injuries to the knee. He returned to Oxford in 2017 as a locum consultant in Orthopaedic Trauma based at the John Radcliffe Major Trauma Centre for 18 months prior to taking up his substantive consultant post based at the Horton General Hospital. Mr Sleat specialises in primary hip replacement surgery as well as the treatment of sports injuries of the knee including arthroscopic surgery. He runs the acute knee clinic based at the Horton General Hospital as well as being a trauma specialist for the trust treating injuries to both the upper and lower limbs. Research & Teaching Mr Sleat has an interest in research being the trauma research lead for the Horton Hospital and trust principal investigator for two current studies. He has published and presented papers on outcomes after trauma surgery and was also part of the Department of Health team that drove the successful implementation of trauma networks in England. Mr Sleat was until recently the training lead for orthopaedic registrars based at the Horton Hospital and ran the innovative Oxford University Hospitals Trauma & Orthopaedic (CESR) training programme. He was also the departments lead for clinical governance. He is now the Deputy Clinical Director for Trauma & Orthopaedics across OUH and the divisional medical informatics lead for the NOTSSCaN division at OUH.
