I am a HCPC registered Occupational Therapist, with a first class degree from Coventry University. I am currently working within a community Older Adult Mental Health Team as a band 6 Occupational Therapist . In my role in the OACMHT I see first hand the importance of taking a holistic and person centred approach to all the work completed with patients. Through taking this approach is allows me to see I each patient as an occupational being, who is often striving to participate meaningful occupations. I have also seen the negative implications when occupational performance is hindered through injury or illness. Something that has also got to be considered during all assessments is how the ageing process and/or ill health can affect not only the person but the people around them. Offering support to carers is a large part of my role. Working with a mixture of patients with differing conditions allows me to expand my own learning and challenge myself. Working with the older adult population has its own unique challenges as often poor mental health is interwoven with physical health. Working in a busy community team has been a learning curve that I have embraced. The saying 'every day is a school day' couldn't be more apt for my experience since starting in in the OAMHT but the more I learn the greater difference I am able to make to the people I work with and for, which is a rewarding experience. I enjoy learning and repeatedly reflect on current skills, in order to constantly improve. I am passionate about Occupational Therapy as I have seen the difference it can make to people’s lives.
