During CBT sessions, you will learn how to change your unhelpful feelings and behaviours through exploring your thinking about past, present or future life events. Rather than focusing on what is outside your control you will learn valuable tools and techniques on how to help yourself by changing what is within your control. My goal as a therapist is for you to leave therapy having built a tool-kit for life and having the confidence and know how to help yourself in the future and cope effectively with life's challenges. Ultimately, you will become your own CBT therapist. CBT is a time-limited therapy and often within 6-8 sessions you will see significant results. During EMDR sessions, we will target and process old or recent traumatic memories (that directly or indirectly affect your life in some way) while using bilateral stimulation (usually right/left eye movements or tapping). EMDR therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. It can also help with anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences. Towards the beginning of EMDR treatment, you will be given lots of grounding and emotion regulation tools which will enable you to confidently go into processing the traumatic memories. You will be supported throughout each phase of the therapy and you will be in control of the pace and which memories to go into. Ultimately, EMDR can be a very healing and transformational therapy.
