Biography
Dr. Cerissa Blaney received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Rhode Island with a focus in Health Psychology. She completed a APA-accredited Clinical Psychology Pre-Doctoral Internship and Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University with a focus in Behavioral Medicine and Primary Care.
Following fellowship, Dr Blaney worked at the University of Central Florida where she had been a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Psychology in the Clinical Psychology PhD program. She worked as part of a new consortium between the Department of Psychology and UCF Health, the multidisciplinary faculty practice of the UCF College of Medicine. Dr. Blaney had a joint appointment with the College of Medicine and was an Assistant Professor within the Department of Internal Medicine.
Recently, she returned to RI to live closer to her parents and continue to raise her family. She is also involved in a teaching role training Brown University psychology interns and post-doctoral fellows and has an appointment as a Clinical Instructor through Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior through Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
Dr Blaney' clinical and academic pursuits have had a strong focus on motivation, health promotion, health behavior change and chronic disease prevention and management with an emphasis in medical populations, particularly in Primary Care.
She is very interested in the integration of behavioral health into medical settings and streamlining behavioral health care models into routine medical care. In addition to her individual and group treatments she is passionate on enhancing the interprofessional development and training of medical and behavioral health providers for integrated care. With this effort, she is invested in her leadership roles on multiple national committees aimed at improving models of care for behavioral health needs.
