I’m a highly experienced Occupational Therapist with a specialism in Hydrotherapy/Aquatic Therapy, as well as a special interest and specialist experience in Palliative Care and Bereavement. In addition I am an NHS Clinical Researcher, Academic Researcher (PhD Palliative Care) and Clinical Lecturer Practitioner at the University of Northumbria. I qualified in 2003 with an MSc in Health/PgDip Occupational Therapy, completing research into disabled watersports. I began my journey into Aquatic Therapy training in 2005 and have studied and practised for over 18 years since. I have trained in Aquatic Therapy techniques in various parts of the UK and Switzerland, and have gained around 350 hours of training. To date I have accumulated around 800 hours of in-water experience as a practitioner, providing therapy for children and adults with a range of conditions including Traumatic Brain Injury, Arthritis, Stroke, Cerebral Palsy and Cancer. I have extensive clinical experience, having practised as an Occupational Therapist since 2003. My scope includes Neuro-rehab, Learning Disabilites, Forensic Psychiatry, Acute Psychiatry, Learning Disabilities, Affective Disorders and Palliative Care. I am especially interested in loss, bereavement and palliation, and am exploring how Aquatic Therapy can compliment more traditional Occupational Therapy interventions in this setting. I am trained in Childhood Bereavement and highly experienced in delivering therapy in Palliative Care. I am currently undertaking PhD studies aimed at amplifying the patient voice in Paediatric Palliative Care.
