I am an occupational therapist and qualified in 2017. Once qualified I worked as a band 5 at Harefield Hospital where I gained knowledge and skills, including: discharge planning, MDT working, palliative care, upper limb rehabilitation, neurological assessment, prolonged disorders of consciousness including the coma recovery scale and critical care rehabilitation. I also ran a weekly activity group and I helped to set up pet therapy on the coronary care unit. In 2019, I started a band 6 rotational post at Hillingdon Hospital to further develop these skills. I completed various rotations including frailty and stroke rehab. During this rotation, I developed a keen interest in neurological rehabilitation & at the start of 2020 I started a static post at the same Trust working in a level 2 neurological rehabilitation unit. I recently returned to Harefield Hospital in a band 7 (fixed term/mat leave) position & I'm enjoying utilising my skills in rehabilitation in this specialist setting (critical care & transplant). I'm currently living with Long Covid & POTS and in my spare time (symptom permitting) I try to advocate for others living with this debilitating condition and have spoken regularly at RCOT/CSP Long Covid network. In March 2023, I also presented at a webinar organised by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) on Long COVID and episodic disability.
