My expertise is in musculoskeletal pain and arthritis. I qualified at the medical school of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1990 and spent time working at hospitals in Sheffield, London (St Thomas’ – Lupus Unit), Auckland New Zealand and various hospitals in the South East of England. I spent 10 years as a consultant in Rheumatology and General Medicine at University Hospital Lewisham, where I became Director of Medical Education. In 2007 I was the National Association of Clinical Tutors Travelling Fellow to North Carolina, spending 6 weeks interviewing senior medical staff at several US teaching hospitals. I continue to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and talk at regional and national level on rheumatology and service provision. I have recently completed a Post graduate certificate in healthcare management. I have been an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians since 2005.
