Having qualified in 2007, I started my career in Social Services assessing adults and children with long term conditions across the physical, mental health and learning disability classifications in order to enable them to maintain their independence within their own home. Specialising in major and minor adaptations, equipment, posture assessment, positive risk taking, moving & handling. My recent experience is both as a leader and clinician in an acute NHS Trust covering multiple general medicine specialisms including frailty; undertaking specialist Occupational Therapy interventions as part of an evidence based, flexible and patient centred approach. I supports patient's with their therapy goals and complex discharge planning as well as undertaking more rapid assessment and decision making in the front door services. I strive to promote positive risk; understanding capacity, aiming to work in the least restrictive and most holistic method. A recent focus has been working on the governance and training of Occupational Therapy staff at the Hospital and across the Trust for moving and handling, striving towards reduced handling care and promoting positive risk taking. With the experience of being in a local authority and reviewing packages of care post hospital discharge, promoting reduced handling care options and challenging cultural norms in their prescriptions/evaluations of care. I strive to be a holistic practitioner and is a strong and tenacious advocate for my client's/patient's/service users.
