I have been a psychologist for over 50 years. I earned a B.A. in psychology from Northwestern University in 1967 and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Colorado in 1972. I taught, conducted research and treated patients at Vanderbilt University, where I collaborated with Dr. Hans Strupp, a pioneer in the study of the effectiveness of psychotherapy. I published over 100 scientific articles on the process and outcome of therapy and the influence of sex and race biases in diagnosis and treatment. In 1975, I moved to the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California at Davis, where I continued teaching and seeing patients and served as the Director of Doctoral Training in Clinical Psychology. Since 2011, I have been in the private practice of individual and couples therapy.
