Graduated in India 1990 where initial surgical training was undertaken. In 1996 Mr. Basu came to the United Kingdom and joined the North East Thames Hospital Group. His higher surgical training was undertaken at the Wessex Deanery where he worked with accomplished upper gastrointestinal, liver and bariatric surgeons such as M Rees, T John, N Davies, D Bennett, SKC Toh and S S Somers. He undertook training in complex upper gi laproscopic surgical procedures at various hospitals including Royal Hampshire, Royal Bournemouth, North Hampshire and Queen Alexandra Hospital. He attained the post of Consultant Upper GI Surgeon at William Harvey Hospital in April 2007. He still continues to work along side Mr SS Somers and Mr G Slater, QAH, Portsmouth and St Richards Hospital, Chichester respectively and Prof David Kerrigan, Phoenix Health. He has extensive experience in laparoscopic surgery(>4000) and works as a faculty for both basic and advanced laparoscopic surgery courses. He has made several presentations in national and international meetings and has publications in peer reviewed journals across the world.
