Dr Vyas graduated with distinctions in Anatomy and Immunology from University of Southampton in 1986. After completing general medical training he was awarded Membership (MRCP) to the Royal College of Physicians in London in 1989 and was elected a Fellow (FRCP) in 2002. He completed training in Wessex, gaining specialist accreditation in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and General Medicine, receiving a Doctorate in Medicine from University of Southampton in 1996 for his research in liver fibrosis. He has presented his research widely at scientific conferences in the UK, Europe, USA, Japan and Australia and has published in top ranked journals including Gastroenterology with a front cover credit. Appointed as a single handed Consultant Gastroenterologist at Salisbury District Hospital, he established and led a department of 5 consultants (1997-2019) and served as the Programme Director and Chair for Speciality training in Wessex, Royal College of Physicians Tutor and Examiner as well as a national deanery inspector for the Postgraduate Medical Education & Training Board. He is an accredited Bowel Cancer Screening Endoscopist and was the lead colonoscopist for the Bath Swindon & Wiltshire Bowel Cancer screening service for 10 years. Since retiring from his NHS post, he continues in clinical practice independently at Ramsay New Hall Hospital as a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Endoscopist. He maintains an active research interest and provides GP education events while also being the JAG Lead for Endoscopy at Ramsay New Hall Hospital.
