We all have a need to be heard and to be seen. Specific struggles that you seek counseling for can be addressed, but even more important is feeling cared for and considered. As a counselor, I believe that the therapeutic relationship creates safety and trust. When a person feels safe and can trust the process then they are able to explore the issues that led them to seek help. Counseling is different for everyone, some need to tell their story, some need information/resources, some seek a plan/directions, and some seek personal growth. Each person is unique and needs a specialized approach. While I have training in specific modalities, such as family systems therapy, CBT, DBT and Brain Spotting, I would say I am relational therapist. I focus on developing the therapeutic relationship, get to know the person, seek to understand what is important to them and minister to the place that is hurting that brought them to counseling. It can be difficult to choose a counselor. Trusting a complete stranger with your thoughts and feelings is courageous. I encourage you to reach out, I would love to have phone call with you to see if this would be a good fit for you and what you are looking for in a counseling relationship. I look forward to connecting.
