I have been an Occupational therapist since 2019 currently working with young people who have significant learning disabilities and autism at Macintyre special needs school/ residential homes. I have a real drive for learning which has led me to studying be become a sensory integration practitioner. My role requires effective assessment skills which is an area I have taken huge pride developing ensuring I am able to identify, treat and coach staff in order to meet out young people's needs. Alongside this the role requires excellent communication skills due to the need of working along side other professionals including our speech and language therapist, PBS team, school nurse, teachers, house teams and of course parents. I also spent time with the NHS Buckinghamshire CYP team when I first qualified. This was a great experience which allowed me to work in a large range of mainstream schools, which required excellent time keeping and organisational skills due to the wide area we cover as a team. My role with the CYP team was cut short due to being redeployed to the wards due to the covid pandemic. Although this was a stressful time for all I thrived in the fast passed nature of ward work to the point I was given the responsibility overseeing the gastro ward as a lone OT.
