Dr Prokar Dasgupta, Professor of Urology, is Chairman of the Institute of Robotic Surgery at Kings College London and Honorary Consultant Urological Surgeon at Guys and St Thomas Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Prof Dasgupta graduated from the University in Calcutta in 1989 and continued his training in the UK where he completed his FRCS and FRCS in Urology, and obtained MD from the University of London. Prof Dasgupta is a UK pioneer in robotic surgery. He introduced this technique in urology which led to his appointment as the first Professor of Robotic Surgery and Urological Innovation at Kings College London in 2009.While working at Guys hospital, Professor Dasgupta pioneered the use of robotic system da Vinci in the UK. In 2005 he led the first trail on robotic surgery use in prostate cancer treatment at The London Clinic. Professor Dasgupta is also credited with developing the Dasgupta technique - technique of injecting Botulinum toxin in overactive bladders. For all his achievements and contributions he has been awarded the prestigious Golden Telescope by the British Association of Urological Surgeons for significant and lasting contribution to urology.Professor Dasgupta is a world-renowned clinician and scientist. He has authored more than 500 publications in the field of Urology and e leads a team of clinician-scientists with the aim to develop advanced robotics for the delivery of new cell-based therapies in Prostate cancer. Prof. Dasgupta has also been Editor-in-Chief of the British Journal of Urology International.
