I am keen to kickstart my career in the scientific industry working in the health sector. I am a young sharp minded Biomedical scientist that is willing to do anything at hand and I am a very fast learner. I have recently graduated with a Bsc (Hons)Biomedical sciences degree at Birmingham City University. I plan to incorporate my skills and knowledge in a professional working environment where I can thrive and excel and become an asset for the company I work for. I stayed committed to seeking my education amidst a worldwide pandemic through self-teaching and remote learning, while enhancing time management, critical thinking and problem-solving skills which pushed and motivated me to complete my final year at university. I completed many lab practicals within my time at university and excelled in modules such as research methods, microbiology, biochemistry, pathophysiology, control of global diseases, and many more. Key subjects which will provide a pivotal role in today's society with the world coping with covid-19 and preparing for the repercussions it will have in the future. I have worked at various UKAS accredited labs such as Dante and eurofins and have gained monumental experience since I have graduated from university. The skills I have picked up from working in these lab environments are: • Comfortability with handling biological specimens • Ability to learn new techniques and perform multiple tasks • Keep accurate records • Precision in loading/ downloading of the materials in theinstruments • Aptitude for teamwork Some of the roles that I have been assigned in the lab are: • Receive, sort, prepare and preserve different kind of biological samples (Swab, blood, serum and tumoral) • Organize the maintenance of biological specimens • Laboratory maintenance and preparation of routine tasks • Preparation of equipment's, buffers and reagents etc. • Maintain a clean, ordered and safe work environment • Ensure all lab equipment is working properly and perform minor instrumentation maintenance • Troubleshoot any specimen or equipment related issues • Follow all Operative Procedures to ensure safety and quality standards • Carry out routine analysis accurately and following strict methodologies • Ensure the safe removal of waste • Unpack and re-stock lab supplies and consumables • Handle potentially harmful samples • Perform RNA extractions and amplification using: • Automated liquid handling systems (Janus G3) • Extraction systems (Chemagic 360) • RT-PCR (Biorad CFX96 DW) • Working with internal LIMS Systems
