Mr Oko is a Consultant ENT surgeon with a special interest and expertise in Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA). He qualified in 1986 and trained at St Mary’s & Royal National Throat, Nose & Ear Hospital in London. He was a Lecturer at the University of Glasgow in ENT surgery and was one of the 12 finalists in 1995 for the Surgeon in Training medal -organised by The Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh- for instrument design and innovation. In 2005 he was appointed as a Consultant ENT Surgeon at the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust (ULHT) & Clinical Lead for Sleep Apnoea Service, and served as Clinical Lead for General Surgery 2009-20011and Clinical Lead for ENT for ULHT from 2007 to 2011. His Award winning Service currently looks after about 3500 OSA patients on CPAP therapy and about 1000 on Mandibular Advancement Devices (MAD) Mr Oko founded the Snoring Disorders Centre based at Pilgrim Hospital in Boston in 2006, and has since opened satellite clinics at Johnson Hospital, Spalding, and 150 Harley Street. In 2008 Mr Oko’s pioneering sleep service at ULHT won the NHS East Midlands Healthcare Award for service transformation. In 2011 he won the Middle East Hospitals award for Respiratory excellence for raising awareness of Sleep Apnoea in the region and this was presented by Riz Kahn. In 2012 he was asked by the Minister for Health to contribute to the OSA working group to improve services for Sleep apnoea patients in the NHS Nationally Mr Oko actively campaigns for better research and facilities for sufferers of sleeping disorders, including the risks associated with undiagnosed sleep apnoea.
