Description

About Louise WilbyI am a Child and Adolescent Psychodynamic Psychotherapist working with Children, Young People and Families. I trained at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust and have a postgraduate certificate in Child, adolescent and family mental wellbeing and an MA in Psychological therapies with children, young people, and families. I work therapeutically with Children, adolescents, parents, and families, offering therapeutic support for a wide range of issues including low self-esteem, anxiety, low mood, depression, self-harm, emotional regulation difficulties (anger), abuse, trauma and much more. I am passionate about the work that I do and the people I work with. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and families to help them learn and grow and be a part of that positive change process. I also continually learn and grow as a result. Providing a containing environment for my clients, where they feel safe and supported, in their often difficult journeys, underpins all of my work. When working with a family, I create a safe space that helps members of a family to understand themselves, each other, and the family dynamics better, to change negative behaviours and resolve conflict. I give families the chance to explore their feelings in a safe, non-judgemental environment and I endeavour to help families move out of old, unhelpful patterns, and create new ones, together. I can also offer educational consultancy. I have extensive experience supporting Children with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties, having worked primarily as a primary school teacher and then as a specialist teacher for children with SEMH needs for 12 years. Having this educational background gives me invaluable knowledge and insight into schools and how to support children in schools. I now work predominantly from a psychodynamic perspective. I also use systemic thinking to think about the system around the child/adolescent (family systems, school system, cultural systems etc) and the impact of the external world on the child.
