I have a real empathy and interest in helping young people with disabilities tackle everyday tasks, particularly those on the Autism spectrum. Working in a range of settings including special schools, mainstream schools, clinic and the community has equipped me to respond to challenging situations, which often require a reasoned, fast and flexible decision-making process. I particularly enjoy using my creativity to develop and deliver individual and group sessions working on fine and gross motor, sensory and perceptual skills. In my most recent setting, I have been able to develop my skills further in delivering support within the classroom environment including within Physical Education, English, Design Technology, cookery and with sensory processing across all subject areas. I have successfully provided strategies to be embedded into school routines including sensory diets, handwriting strategies, adaptive equipment for cookery and support to differentiate a wide range of curriculums. I have also worked alongside clinical psychologists to provide strategies to support children with social, emotional and behavioural needs. I have supported children with extra-curricular activities including snow sports, rock climbing, trampolining alongside supporting them with managing travel, money skills and shopping. I have gained extensive knowledge of equipment provision, contributed to service setup and development and successfully collaborated and supported a multi-disciplinary team.
