Mr Tysome was appointed as a Consultant ENT surgeon at Cambridge University Hospitals in 2012. He specialises in hearing and balance and sinus problems in both adults and children. He performs complex ear and sinus surgery including hearing implantation and skull base surgery. He has pioneered introduction of Balloon Dilatation of the Eustachian tube in the UK, is the clinical lead of Cambridge regional skull base unit and a member of the hearing implant, head and neck, neurofibromatosis type 2 and pituitary multidisciplinary teams providing high quality specialist care. Mr Tysome treats patients both children and adults with general ENT problems. He specialises in hearing and balance issues, sinusitis, paediatric ENT problems as well as hearing implantation and skull base surgery. Mr Tysome has won many academic prizes over his career including the gold medal from the Royal Society of Medicine for his ranking as 1st in the ENT examination taken by all ENT surgeons at the completion of training. He has edited four ENT books, published over 100 research papers and presented his work internationally on numerous occasions. Mr Tysome has a research interest in Eustachian tubes dysfunction and balloon dilatation of the Eustchian tubes, outcomes after hearing implantation and innovative treatments for skull base tumours. He is a member of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence Interventional Procedures Committee and council member of the Royal Society of Medicine Otology Section and the British Skull Base Society nd Chair of NHS England SPecialised Ear and Ophthalmology CLinical Reference Group.
