Mr James Pitt trained as a doctor at the London Hospital Medical College, London University and qualified in 1989. His surgical training was in London at Charing Cross, Hammersmith and St Mary's Hospitals. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in 1995. He carried out research into anal fissure treatments at University College London in 1996 and was awarded the degree of MSc with distinction in Surgical Science. In 2001 he was appointed as Consultant General Surgeon at the Ipswich Hospital, Suffolk and also had admitting rights at the Nuffield hospital, Ipswich and the Oaks Hospital, Colchester. He is now the senior General Surgeon at Ipswich Hospital. His practice is mainly colorectal surgery in particular laparoscopic bowel cancer surgery, management of perianal conditions and laparoscopic hernia repair.
