Having qualified as an occupational therapist in 2006, I have worked across different services and settings. I have worked in social care in Havering, supporting children with disabilities and also in Essex, supporting adults. My social care experience includes carrying out assessments within people’s homes, advising on equipment needs, adaptations and housing needs. I have worked in a rehabilitation unit, providing therapy to adults who have experienced a stroke, working as part of a multidisciplinary team. For the majority of my career, I have worked in NHS specialist paediatric services, working with children from birth to transition into adult services. I have completed my MAES (Movement Analysis and Education Strategies), which is a therapeutic approach in early intervention and specialised treatment for babies and children with neuro-developmental conditions and movement disorders. My focus is working with children and adults with neurodevelopmental conditions and I specialise is the assessment and diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Beyond a person’s diagnosis of ASD, I am also very passionate about supporting people with conditions such as ASD and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I currently work with Provide Wellbeing, as a lead clinician in our neurodevelopmental service. We offer both NHS and self-pay ASD and ADHD diagnostic assessments. I’m very proud of the service that Provide Wellbeing has developed and what we provide to both children and adults and their families. We have an incredible team of managers, business support officers and clinicians. Along with my colleagues who I work very closely with, we have developed a specialist ASD assessment service. We support people through their assessment who experience high levels of anxiety, have other conditions such as selective mutism, as well as demand-avoidance profiles. We adapt our assessment approach to meet the individual needs of everyone who comes to see us and always aim for our assessments to be as relaxed and as positive as possible. As a team, we are always learning new ways to support people and continue to learn so much about autism from the people we meet.
