Mr Jähnich is a specialist in shoulder and elbow surgery and worked as a consultant since 2004. He went to medical school in Greifswald, Germany, from 1985 until 1990.He graduated in 1991 having worked in a training post in sports medicine. At that point he moved to England in order to improve his language skills. Initially for sporting reasons and later on for family reasons he stayed in the United Kingdom and underwent a full training in surgery in general followed by a specialist orthopaedic training and advanced training posts in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and a Hand Fellowship. He teaches on National Shoulder Arthroscopy Courses and a Course for Shoulder Replacements. He is a keen Sportsman and still competes at Masters level in Rowing.

Mr Jähnich is a keen rower. He has competed on national and international levels throughout his life. He has won multiple national titles and remains the last ever East German National Champion in the lightweight double sculls and he has won the British National Championships.These days he is still competitive in Masters rowing events. To date he has won six World Masters Regattas.

Since 2004 Mr Jähnich is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in the management of upper limb problems. Furthermore, Mr Jähnich teaches on national and international specialist arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery courses. He was the Regional Clinical Coordinator of the National Joint Registry. Over the last 10 years of his practice as a consultant he has developed and broadened his surgical techniques.To aid this he has visited world renowned orthopaedic surgeons. He has been the lead local investigator for multi-centre studies fro the treatment of rotator cuff tears, clavicle fractures and shoulder fractures.
