I began my Occupational Therapy career in 2012, a few months after graduation. I worked in Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, Scottish Highlands, and worked in the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit. I then moved back to Glasgow in 2013 and was fortunate to continue working in a stroke unit which allowed me the opportunity to compare Occupational Therapy service provision in rural and urban areas. I spent a short time working as a rotational Occupational Therapist within NHS hospitals in Glasgow and gained experience working in palliative care, respiratory units and gastroenterology units. My interest in gastroenterology and mental health led me to my subsequent post. In 2014 I began working with Glasgow's Alcohol and Drug Recovery Service, initially in the inpatient and day-patient unit and latterly in the community. I am passionate about supporting people to achieve their personal goals and encourage them to make their own informed decisions about their health. I began working with the Homecare Service within Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership in February 2020 (in hindsight, the most challenging time to begin a six week induction as lockdown began once the initiation process had ended!). My specialist area is working within the Reablement Service; Reablement focuses on supporting individuals to regain safety and independence with daily tasks, thus reducing the reliance on services such as Homecare. I have an interest in technology-enabled care and the positive impacts (i.e., convenient, accessible, and cost-effective) this will have on future health and social care service delivery. I am keen to widen my knowledge and skill-base hence my reason for exploring LinkedIn; I am hopeful that this network will be useful and allow me the opportunity to communicate with others who have similar interests.
