My current research, which has attracted international recognition, focuses on the design, delivery, and testing of complex (health service and public health) interventions and the evaluation of complex health systems. Most of my research focuses on areas associated with unscheduled and emergency care, mental health, allied healthcare and related global health. Methodologically, I have expertise in evidence synthesis, intervention development and evaluation, consensus methods, and realist evaluation. I work in the Nursing Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Research Unit (NMAHP-RU), at the University of Stirling, Scotland. The NMAHP-RU is a Scottish Government Chief Scientist Office (CSO) research unit, with approximately 60 members of staff and post-graduate students, with academic bases at the University of Stirling and Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU). Our funders include the Medical Research Council, NIHR HTA, NIHR HS&DR, CSO, EU COST, EU Framework 7, Scottish Government, Chief Nursing Office (CNO) (Scottish Government), as well as several major charities (e.g. MND Scotland, Diabetes Scotland, Wellbeing of Women, Macmillan Cancer Support, The Stroke Association).
