I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2009, I then spent 3 years working in a NHS Children and Young People's Service (CYPS). During my time at CYPS I worked mainly with children and their families who had a diagnosis of Autism. I developed an understanding and knowledge of the impact Autism can have on a child's everyday life. Also the impact on families learning to support and care for their child. Whilst at CYPS I also qualified as a Sensory Integration Practitioner. This allowed me to assess for sensory processing difficulties affecting function and behaviour. This also allowed me to support and educate fellow professionals with the CYPS team. In 2017 I was employed in a special needs school, developing an Occupational Therapy Service. In this setting I could use my experience and knowledge supporting children with neurological disorders. I also train staff in sensory integration, supporting their ability to teach the children more effectively. Whilst working in an educational setting I have also developed skills to assess and develop fine and gross motor function, handwriting and daily living skills and the use of adaptive equipment. The experience, knowledge and training I have acquired over the course of my professional career, has developed my confidence. I can assess and support children and their families with diverse presentations across a variety of mental health and physical factors. Creating effective and engaging interventions are strong skills I have developed. Improving theraput relationship, increasing the potential of client development. I am now beginning my adventures of becoming self employed and using all my experience to support local children, their families and schools.
