My name is Cara Turner, I am 28 years old, I am currently studying a part time occupational therapy degree at university. I work supporting 3 year old girI with complex health needs due to a brain injury at birth. I also work as a self employed occupational therapy assistant for a qualified occupational therapist, who provides me with different projects to complete for young children with brain injuries. Such as, manual handling sessions, creativity, play etc. I also work in a children's residential home, supporting children with a range of complex needs and challenging behaviour due to learning disabilities, ASD and emotional behavioural disorders. I have experience in different forms of communication such as Makaton and PECS and I am team teach and PRICE trained for restraints if and when required. I keyworked a very complex young person for 3 years, who was non verbal and displayed many different challenging behaviours. I managed to build an incredibly strong relationship with this young person, while supporting them to develop their independence as well as their cognitive and educational abilities. I recently supported them on their transition into adult services. I have experience in completing care plans, individual behavioural support plans, 24 hour management plans, risk assessments as well as attending meetings and reviews along side other professionals such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapsits, clinical psychologists etc. I have my level 3 residential childcare NVQ. I also have 8 years experience in health and social care. I have a NVQ level 3 in health and adult social care. I am a qualified phlebotomist with 5 years experience. I have experience in GP settings, hospital settings, mental health, learning disabilities, nursing homes and home care.
