Description

Hi, I am newly qualified Occupational therapist from Queen Margaret University. After graduating with a 1.1 I was employed by an acute hospital here in Edinburgh where I am currently working as an occupational therapist in a orthopaedic/general rehabilitation ward. I strive to incorporate a holistic strengths-based, person-centred approach when collaborating with patients and their families to set goals and devise plans to enable their development and ultimately engagement in activities meaningful to them. I achieve this by using my professional knowledge and demonstrating excellent communication skills which also enables me to build strong therapeutic relationships. I also demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills as due to the complex presentations by many of our patients, effective collaborative working is essential. I feel I have quickly developed organisation, prioritisation and delegation skills to manage a busy caseload in a fast-paced environment such as the acute setting. I am very interested in the area of community occupational therapy, particularly paediatrics which is an area I completed my final university placement and managed my own caseload. Years of volunteering to teach children swimming has ignited my interest in working with children. During my final placement I enjoyed developing evidence-based practice to use a range of assessments to complement a strengths-based, child-centred approach. I was responsible for devising and implementing therapeutic programmes that were fun and engaging for the children to promote their development and engagement in meaningful occupations that could also be continued at home with family to promote therapy. I am committed to continuing my professional development as an Occupational therapist as I am currently completing the flying start programme and maximise learning opportunities wherever possible. I believe that completing the Masters in Occupational Therapy assisted me in developing critical skills which I engage to constantly evolve and enhance my practice. Resume available upon request.
