I was born in Palermo, Italy, and studied medicine at the local medical school, University Policlinico, where Ie graduated with maximum grades in 1992. Having been granted the right to practice medicine in Italy the next year and in UK in 1994, I trained in vascular surgery in UK and worked in prestigious units both in Wessex (Southampton) and in the North West (South Manchester University). I also spent a year working in South Africa, at the Vascular Academic Unit of Pretoria, where I was appointed lecturer and where I developed an interested for vascular trauma. I was appointed Consultant in 2008 and worked at Blackpool Fylde and Wyre NHS for 8 years. Following the reconfiguration of vascular specialist services, in 2016 I moved to East Lancashire NHS Trust where I am currently employed. I have maintained a strong link with the Fylde Coast area where my private practice is based. I have a particular interest in medical education and I am Lecturer in Vascular Surgery at Salford University and recently also at University of Central Lancashire.
