I have over 40 years of experience working within the Health and Social Care sector as a Registered Nurse and was awarded an MBE for services to Dementia care in 2022. I recently retired as the Deputy CEO and co-founder of Belong Care Villages in North West England. I have over 20 years experience of working as an Executive Director for a ‘not for profit’ organisation and 7 years of Board Trustee experience providing me with the wisdom, experience, and vision to lead on the successful transformation of organisations and their people. During my career I have developed my skills and in interests in Dementia Care with a particular focus on the importance of the designed environment including the introduction of open-plan small family-sized households, combined with person-centred care. I introduced sensor technology, electronic care planning, specialist gyms, and well-being approaches for the benefit of the whole community. I introduced the concept of intergenerational care within the Belong communities and supported an Arts Council project with the Bluecoat Centre. My Churchill Travel Fellowship in 2016 took me all over the world to see examples of best practices to bring back to the UK and to influence others for the benefit of those living with Dementia. My leadership skills are embedded in Nursing and Dementia Care, Operations, Strategic Planning, Business Development, Education HR, and values-based recruitment. I also have experience in Property Development and Marketing having successfully developed and opened 8 award-winning care villages to accommodate over 800 residents and employment for over 1200 colleagues. I am keen to continue to use my experience to benefit individuals and organisations, ultimately to ensure that older people and those living with dementia live happily and well. Since retirement, I have enjoyed having more time for Yoga and exercise, hiking, cycling, and using my campervan. I love to care for my granddaughters and support their hobbies. I speak a little Spanish.
