I am passionate about therapeutic use of myself in clients/patients recovery pathways from illnesses that impair meaningful and purposeful activities of daily living in individuals. I believe in application of evidence based therapeutic interventions to support clients/patients recovery from illnesses. Core to my current practice is collaborative interventions between client, therapist and interprofessional therapy team and as well as external services working together towards identified rehabilitation goals. Currently I am practitioner in inpatient neurological rehabilitation setting which is focused on three inpatient rehabilitation units: acute/complex physical, acute/complex cognitive, acute/complex behavioural and step down community reintegration. The neurological conditions in this setting encompass traumatic brain injuries, acquired brain injuries, spinal injuries and challenging progressive neurological conditions presenting physical, cognitive and challenging behaviours. In this setting multidisciplinary team approach benefits from consultant neurological rehabilitation physician consultant psychiatrist, consultant neuropsychologist, specialist behavioural nurse practitioner, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, assistant psychologist, speech and language therapist, dietician, nursing team and rehabilitation assistants. Key outcomes of practice in current setting are post discharge independent living in community, improved quality of life and vocational rehabilitation/graded return-to-work programmes. My approach to service delivery is based on business prudence that justifies client discharge decisions based on United Kingdom specialist rehabilitation outcomes collaborative (UKROC) measures.
