Dr. Stefania Bonaccorso is an experienced psychiatrist. Her areas of expertise include psychosis, depression, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, bipolar illness, and personality disorders.Dr. Bonaccorso completed her medical degree at the University of Rome La Sapienza, where she obtained qualifications as both a medical doctor and a general adult psychiatrist. Following her medical degree, she pursued a clinical fellowship at Saint Ann Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Paris, which was awarded by La Sapienza University.Dr Bonaccorso later completed a Ph.D. in neuro-psychoimmunology, conducted jointly in Antwerp, Belgium, and Maastricht, Netherlands. Following this, she went to the United States where she engaged in a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Boulder, Colorado, and Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. This prestigious fellowship allowed her to delve into research related to the interactions between depression, the immune system, and psychopharmacology.Dr. Bonaccorso has gained over two decades of clinical experience. She has worked as an inpatient consultant, gaining expertise in assessing and managing acute psychosis, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. Currently, she serves as a consultant psychiatrist for the NHS and maintains a private practice. In her role within a primary mental health team in Islington, she provides care to individuals with a diverse range of mental health conditions, including personality disorders, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and first-episode psychosis.Dr. Bonaccorso remains actively engaged in research and holds honorary academic positions with institutions such as UCL, Kings College London, and the University of Hertfordshire. She supports trainees as a site tutor for Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust and holds the position of academic secretary for the Royal College of Psychiatrists, where she organises academic programs for her colleagues in the London region.
